In March, Noel's Children's Ministry Team met and dreamed of ways to make Sunday mornings more inviting and exciting for young families. It was decided that it would be really cool if we could decorate the building to look like a tree house of some sort, and folks began researching what that would look like. Randy Triplett, a minister and artist and super nice guy, visited Noel and talked to a large group of interested individuals about the possibility of creating a Treehouse theme within the Children's Building. Planning and preparation began, and, with the help of the Trustees and some sheetrock guys, we were ready at the end of June to begin painting. From June 30 until July 17, a large group of Noel folks (41 different individuals over the course of 3 weeks) gathered most evenings to prep and prime walls, spackle holes, put down blue tape, PAINT, draw grid lines, draw mural outlines, PAINT, laugh, encourage, make a Sonic run...and PAINT some more. By the time Randy arrived on July 18, the walls were ready for his handiwork. His artistry is amazing! He took our colorful, but flat, backgrounds and transformed them into trees, clouds, bushes, wooden planks, and so much more! He stayed and worked about ten days, adhering animals, signs, and other characters to the walls to create a whole new world. The children love it! What we teach on Sunday mornings has not changed, but the environment in which we teach is so much more fun and attractive now. Again, HUGE THANKS to everyone who came out and painted, to those who encouraged us, to the custodial staff who stayed on duty as we painted late into the night, to those who contributed financially, and to the Trustees who made all this possible. If you have not had a chance to see the transformation (and we're not completely through, yet), please feel free to drop in for a tour on Sunday morning. Mary Green, Children's Ministries *Enjoy the Treehouse pictures throughout these pages.

prayer rocks
During VBS this summer, the children made "prayer rocks," rocks that they painted with a cross or heart on them, to go in packets for the Gulf Coast oil spill workers. We sent the prayer rocks along with cards that the children made to go with them. The scripture verse on the cards was, "God alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken." Psalm 62:2. The Louisiana United Methodist Church has an outreach ministry to these workers and visits them weekly to provide support and hand out devotional and inspirational material.

"The Lord's Prayer"
Current Sermon Series
You've prayed it a thousand times. You can say it without even thinking about it. It's probably the most widely known and frequently prayed prayer of all time. Throughout the past two thousand years, it has been spoken in services of worship, in times of personal crisis, and at the graveside of a loved one.
When they asked him, these were the words Jesus taught his disciples to pray. So, of all the words he could have chosen, why these? Of all the things to pray for, why these?
During this series of sermons, may the words of the Lord's Prayer draw you closer to your heavenly Father; may they become your daily bread; and may they be a foretaste of the kingdom, and the power, and the glory that lasts forever.
July 25 "Our Father"
August 1 "Thy Kingdom Come"
August 8 "Give Us This Day"
August 15 "Forgive Us Our Trespasses"
August 22 "Lead Us Not Into Temptation"
August 29 "The Kingdom,
and the Power,
and the Glory, Forever"
Missed a Sunday? Copies of each sermon will be available on CD in the Church Office. Call 221-5207. |
